A Process of Discovery:

Three years ago, Effinger was asked to help create the designs for the stained glass art project at Holy Name. With a graphic arts and fine arts background, he found the challenge intriguing.

After he was given specific subjects and themes for each window, he needed to research and understand the history behind each story in order to communicate it through an image.

Once Effinger thinks he has a clear depiction of the subject, he begins to draw the image. Then, he scans the drawing and sends it to Father Earnest for his approval before starting to design each window using programs such as Illustrator and Photoshop. Feeling confident with his image, Effinger draws the fine lines that delineate the image and serve as the lines the glass cutters follow when crafting the window.

The following images represent many of the concept drawings, colored artwork (that is then approved by the Archdiocese) and the newly completed windows in photography.
